My brother has been a vegan since he was 13, he's now 42 and will be one for life - he even tracks down expensive leather substitutes to reupholster his sofas...at the cost of hundreds of pounds. Like you, he is vegan on grounds of principle, as opposed to personal choice. The difference is, though, that my brother isn't a judgemental preachy arsehole...and he believes people are free to choose. He will sit with us at Christmas, eating his nut roasts and what-have-you, while we eat turkey, and not a word of judgement will fall from his lips. You could learn a thing or two from my brother.
